The Norfolk Island pine is a tree that I do not understand. The symmetry is so unreal and in my eyes the tree grows upside down. When I look at it, I think of the artist Rodney Graham. This work was made for him based on his serie of monotypes of upside down trees. By inverting the tree, Graham recalls the origins of photography, his ongoing facinating with the camera obscura and to show that the world is really not as it appears.
